The Obstetrical Center: We Bring New Life to the City!
Maryland General Hospital has been bringing new life to Baltimore for more than 100 years. Our Obstetrical Center was created to meet every one of your birthing needs. Completely renovated in 1997, we offer state-of-the-art technology in a beautiful and comfortable setting. Our 20-bed unit features seven Labor/Delivery/Recovery/Post-Partum suites and two Labor/Delivery/Recovery suites. In addition, we are fully prepared to handle Caesarean section births in our operating suite located right in the center.

About Our Suites
We are pleased to offer you single-room maternity care. That means each stage of your birthing experience -- from labor to the grand arrival and your recovery time -- all take place in one room.
Each suite offers a homelike atmosphere tastefully decorated with wood floors and colorful furnishings as well as all the technology necessary to ensure a safe birth. In our rooms, you can relax during your labor in your own whirlpool bath, or use our birthing pool for your delivery.

Personalized Care for You and Your Newborn
From the moment you arrive, until your delivery, one nurse is assigned to take care of you and your baby.
We have a pediatrician on-site 24 hours a day. Following your delivery, one of our pediatricians will perform an exam of your newborn. We can even help you arrange for free immunizations for your baby. And if you need to select a qualified pediatrician to care for your little one, we will help you find a perfect match.

Your husband, significant other or your support person is encouraged to actively participate in the delivery process. We believe that family bonding at the moment of birth is extremely important.
