Endocrinology

Endocrinologists diagnose and treat diseases of the endocrine glands and their secretions (hormones). The endocrine glands include the:
- Thyroid gland
- Pituitary gland
- Pancreas
- Ovaries
- Testes
The hormones are secreted into the blood stream and control important functions such as metabolism, growth, appetite, salt levels in the blood, blood sugar levels, blood pressure and kidney function.
The good news is that Maryland General Hospital offers help for patients who need specialized care for their endocrine needs. Lead by our board-certified physician Dr. Arsalan Sheikh, the Division of Endocrinology can help you regain your wellness and put balance back into your everyday routine.
Typical disorders of the endocrine system are:
- Diabetes
- Thyroid disease
- Diseases of the pituitary and adrenal glands
Insurance
The majority of treatments offered by the Endocrinology Division are covered with
a referral and authorization from most medical insurance carriers, Medicaid and Medicare.
