Employee Benefits
At Maryland General Hospital, we take pride in our comprehensive benefits package. Our benefits include a generous vacation plan, 12 paid holidays, and sick time. The hospital also offers medical and dental insurance as well as prescription drug, vision and pension plans. Additionally, we offer disability insurance, tuition reimbursement and a 403(b) retirement plan. Other benefits include workers´ compensation, jury/witness duty leave as well as the services of a credit union and direct payroll deposit.
Medical - Triple Option Plans
Maryland General Hospital offers three medical plans: a High Option (MGH Choice Plan) and Triple Option Plans (Gold & Silver Plans). All Plans offer a broad choice of providers: Maryland General Hospital, CareFirst BCBS network providers, and/or out-of-network providers. Employees must work at least 20 hours per week to be eligible for either plan. Employees pay for their plan through a bi-weekly, pre-tax contribution that is based on their employment status (full-time vs. part-time) and the plan they select.
FutureHealth Program Incentive
As part of the health insurance benefit, FutureHealth is a resource employees may utilize for Care Management (for chronic disease such as diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure and/or high cholesterol), FutureFootsteps Maternity Program, 24-hour Nurse Advice Line and Pre-certification for hospital admissions. As an incentive, any covered health plan member will receive a $25 gift certificate to Wal-Mart for participating in the program and another $25 gift certificate upon successfully completing the program.
Pharmacy Benefit
Another component of the health insurance benefit is Pharmacy Benefit. Prescriptions are covered through the MGH Pharmacy. Eligible employees must be scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week. Partial reimbursement for prescriptions filled at outside pharmacies. Part-time employees may only have prescription coverage for self.
Dental Benefit
MGH offers a traditional dental plan. You may visit the provider of your choice. Preventative and Diagnostic Services are covered at 100%; Minor Services are covered at 80% after deductible; Major services are covered at 50% after the deductible. Orthodontia coverage is available for dependent children age 18 and under at $1,000 lifetime max. Employees pay for their plan through a bi-weekly, pre-tax contribution that is based on their employment status (full-time vs. part-time) and the plan they select.
Vision Care (Benefit for Employees only)
The Vision Plan offers, through the Maryland General Hospital Eye Clinic, a free eye exam each year and $30.00 discount towards the purchase of eyeglasses or contact lenses every 24 months.
Flexible Spending Accounts
MGH offers all eligible employees access to pre-tax spending accounts for health care and dependent care (day care) expenses. You can put money away on a pre-tax basis and be reimbursed with pre-tax dollars for eligible expenses you may incur during the plan year.
Life Insurance
MGH provides eligible employees with group term life and accidental death & dismemberment insurance (AD&D). Coverage is for the employee only. The amount of coverage is equal to 1 ½ times your annual base salary. This benefit is 100% employer paid.
Tuition Reimbursement
MGH encourages you to advance in your career and develop skills and knowledge in health care-related fields. The maximum plan year benefit for regular full-time RN employees is $5,000.00 and for regular part-time RN employees, $2,500.00. The maximum plan year benefit for all other regular full-time employees is $2,500.00 and $1,250.00 for regular part-time employees. Employees must receive a C or better to receive reimbursement. The plan year for Tuition Reimbursement is based on the school year, which is September through August.
Disability Insurance: Short-Term Disability
MGH offers short-term disability insurance to provide eligible employees with income protection. The benefit pays 60% of your weekly base salary (with maximums). Benefits are payable at the end of 30 consecutive days of disability. This benefit is 100% employer paid.
Disability Insurance: Long-Term Disability
Long-term disability insurance provides eligible employees with income protection for covered accidents, sickness or illnesses that last longer than 90 consecutive days. The benefit pays 60% of your monthly base salary (with maximums). This benefit is 100% employer paid.
Retirement Plan
The Retirement Plan for Non-Union employees offers eligible employees a pension benefit at retirement. You become a participant after completing at least 1,000 hours of service within the first 12 months of employment. You become partially vested after only two years of credited service; you are fully vested after five years of credited service. The contributions are paid in full by the hospital. You have the freedom to invest the funds as you see fit through our third party firm.
Tax Sheltered Annuity 403(b)
Benefit-eligible employees of the hospital are eligible to participate in the 403(b) Plan. The Tax Sheltered Annuity plan allows you to save money on a pre-tax basis for retirement. Federal, state and local income taxes are deferred until you withdraw money from the account. Beginning April 1, 2007, the hospital with match 50% up to the employee's 403(b) contribution of 6%. The hospital’s maximum contribution is 3%). You have the freedom to invest the funds as you see fit through our third party firm.
Vacation
MGH offers a generous vacation package to all eligible employees. The vacation program helps employees achieve a proper balance between work and personal demands. The amount of paid vacation is based upon job classification and length of service. There is a six month waiting period before vacation is available for use. The maximum vacation accrual that one may have at any given time is based on employee type.
Sick Leave
MGH provides eligible employees with protection against loss of earnings on a short-term basis due to a personal illness or injury (non-work related). The maximum benefit is 10 days per year. The maximum carryover at the end of any calendar year is 560 hours. The waiting period for this benefit is based on employee type.
Holidays
Holidays are opportunities for paid leave. MGH observes 12 holidays per year. There are 7 Calendar Holidays (Martin Luther Kind, Jr. Day, Memorial Day, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas) and 5 Personal Holidays for full-time employees/2.5 days (20 hours) per year for part-time employees. Personal Holidays are pro-rated if employment commences during a calendar year. The waiting period for this benefit is based on employee type.
Funeral Leave
Employees receive a maximum of three days with pay for immediate family members.
Parking
Parking is partially subsidized by the hospital. A pre-tax bi-weekly payroll contribution for full-time employees is required.
Credit Union (optional)
The Credit Union offers a variety of services to employees. Employees can use payroll deduction for savings and loan privileges.
Direct Deposit (optional)
You can have your bi-weekly pay deposited in the bank or credit union of your choice.
Jury or Witness Duty
Regular full-time and regular part-time employees are eligible to receive their base rate of pay for all scheduled days missed while serving on Jury Duty.
Workers´ Compensation
All employees are covered under this benefit. If an injury occurs while at work, please notify your supervisor immediately and complete an Employee Incident Report.
MTA passes (optional)
Employees can defray the cost (an approximate 40% savings) on commute-to-work expenses by utilizing pre-tax salary deductions in order to purchase MTA monthly passes.
