Sleep Center
Maryland General Hospital’s Sleep Center helps patients who have problems sleeping.
The major sleep disorder our physicians treat is called sleep apnea, which is caused by abnormal breathing. Its symptoms include daytime sleepiness, loud and irregular snoring, morning headaches, irritability, moodiness, poor concentration, obesity, hypertension, frequent night urination, loss of energy and depression.
Sleep apnea causes thousands of deaths each year and can cause or contribute to high blood pressure, stroke, fluid retention and abnormal heartbeats. The test for sleep apnea is performed in our sleep lab, where you spend the night in one of our private rooms while a technician monitors data related to your sleeping patterns.
