Orthopedic Surgery
Maryland General Hospital has an excellent orthopedic surgery program that preserves, corrects and restores the form and function of the musculoskeletal system. Patients are seen in their physicians private office, in the Family Health Center, where orthopedic care is available, or in the Emergency Department. Following surgery, if rehabilitation is needed, patients can access the Rehab Center at Maryland General, in addition to receiving follow-up care from their physician.
Rehabilitation is provided by skilled therapists for patients with the following conditions: fractures, sprains and strains, joint replacement, sports related injuries, hand injuries and low back pain.
- Joint Replacement Class
Patients scheduled for elective joint surgery have the option of attending our preoperative classes for familiarization with expected in-hospital care and physical therapy. After surgery there is the option of being cared for in our acute in-patient rehabilitation unit located on the third floor.
Patients have access to the most current therapy techniques and equipment to maximize their recovery. For patients requiring rehab, services are available on our main campus and at two other locations.
