Cardiology Services

We care with compassion. And thats smart medicine.
Committed to your healthier future.
Trends show that the fastest growing segment of the U.S. population is women. To the surprise of many, heart disease affects women as much as men, but a womans heart attack symptoms can be different. That is why Maryland General Hospital has expanded our Cardiology Services by focusing on the symptoms of heart disease in women.
In addition to our general Cardiology Services, we offer a specialized program for persons who have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure. The Center for Heart Failure at Maryland General is committed to working with patients, families and their primary healthcare providers to manage and control their symptoms. Our number one goal is to improve your quality of life, while managing heart disease in the community.
A Committed Team Covers all the Bases.
Our board-certified cardiologists, nurse practitioners, electrophysiologists and technicians provide the utmost in patient care. If you are at risk for heart disease or have been recently diagnosed, you will find comfort in our teams ability to work together for your well-being.
Heres what you can expect:
- Cardiology consultation
- Full range of comprehensive testing
- Perioperative consults to evaluate your ability to have surgery
- Patient education
Are You at Risk?
One of the best ways to prevent heart disease or decrease your chance of having a heart attack is by paying close attention to your risk factors and the warning signs. It is important to note that you may be at more risk based on your family history and lifestyle. Women should pay special attention to these warning signs since they are often more subtle than those in men.

The Center for Heart Failure
Sometimes called congestive heart failure (CHF), heart failure is a condition in which the heart cannot pump enough blood to meet the needs of all of the organs in the body. Heart failure does not mean that the heart has stopped working. It means that the heart is not as strong, and is not able to pump as well as it used to.
Heart failure is a common condition with approximately 500,000 persons being diagnosed each year, adding to the more than 5 million already living with it today.
