Echocardiogram

Echocardiograms use ultrasound to image the anatomy, efficiency and blood flow of the heart. MGH has two cardiac ultrasound scanners. The studies can be done in the Cardiology department or at the patient's bedside.

An excercise echocardiogram uses the same principle as the excercise or pharmacological induced stress test, except the patient is scanned by ultrasound immediately following the stress portion of the test.
