William C Anthony, MD, FACP, MBA
Maryland General enjoys a rich history of leadership in academic and clinical medicine. Maryland General was built in 1881 and has strong reputation in the community it has served since its foundation. Our heritage is the cornerstone for our future and the legacy that supports our pursuit of the highest standards in education and patient care. The Department of Medicine and its faculty has a long-standing commitment to excellence in postgraduate medical education. Our Internal Medicine training program was established in 1954 and the Transitional Program in 1983.
Our philosophy is to provide a core curriculum designed to promote the acquisition of basic clinical competencies in internal medicine with subsequent tailoring of educational experiences to meet the individual and career objectives of our trainees. The program is designed to foster excellence in clinical skills and teaching, and to develop future academic opportunities for our trainees. The unique blend of trainee excellence, well-developed rotation in each of the subspecialties of Internal Medicine, the rich clinical resources of the hospital and an attitude of interdisciplinary cooperation throughout the institution, create an environment that fosters an exciting and enjoyable learning experience.
The Internal Medicine Training Program is based at Maryland General, but includes rotations at nearby partner institutions, including the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Medical Center (BVAMC). As part of the University of Maryland Medical Health System, Maryland General’s clinical service is sustained by a strong referral base. Training opportunities offered by the Department of Medicine include:
- A three-year Categorical Program
- A one-year Transitional Program
We are committed to working with each resident to develop an individual training experience that allows you to attain your personal career objectives. The combination of a diverse patient population and an outstanding and dedicated faculty provides residents in our program with the ingredients for a rich and diverse educational experience. We invite you to submit an application to the Maryland General Hospital through ERAS.
